Sun Byte Software develops freeware applications in the field of digital video playback. The first app, SceneMax, is a lightweight player for watching highlights from a selection of videos without needing to edit and generate a new file. You can quickly assemble a video sequence and play it directly from the source files. It is useful for creating short sequences to share with friends, or for reviewing action camera footage from GoPro™-style devices.
The second app, VideFlow, is a slow motion frame player for analysing sporting movements. When learning a new skill, it is often helpful to film yourself and review the motion in detail. Fast frame advance with a jog dial allows precise control, enabling you to pause and step through frames clearly. It also incorporates AI-based computer vision, including full body mapping and two custom trackers for following sports equipment or other objects. Visual overlays such as motion traces can be drawn onto the video, with export to MP4 available (watermarked in the free version).
These applications are independently developed software projects, created to explore programming ideas and build software development experience. They are designed to be practical and useful, while remaining simple and accessible. I hope you find them helpful. Paul.
SceneMax is a utility for playing back custom sequences from your video files (known as scenes). It allows you to create personalised highlights, so you can enjoy the most important moments without watching entire clips. Playback is taken directly from the original files, with no need to edit or produce a new video.
When reviewing home videos or GoPro™ footage, it is often unnecessary to watch full-length recordings—especially when sharing with others. Typically, this would require editing and exporting a new video, which can be time-consuming and complex. SceneMax provides a simpler alternative by allowing you to define and play sequences instantly, without any editing process.

The mobile app has been recreated for Windows, bringing the same core functionality and experience to desktop systems.
The Windows version closely follows the mobile app, with a similar interface, controls, and optional dark mode. While the design remains consistent, the underlying code has been adapted for desktop use and written in C++. This environment provides additional benefits, including an alternative AI body mapping pipeline optimised for lower-spec systems, and support for hardware- accelerated graphics via OpenGL where available.
